Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them.So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.(Lev 10:1)
🌻Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it: these two sons of Aaron sought to connect with God their own way, apart from the specific ceremonies God revealed to Moses.
🌻We don’t know what their motivation was. Perhaps it was pride, perhaps it was ambition, perhaps it was jealousy, perhaps it was impatience that motivated them. Whatever their exact motivation, it wasn’t holiness unto the LORD.
🌻As James puts it, people dont recieve when they approach God because their motives are driven with pride or seeking their personal pleasure. Gaon the root word for Pride means arrongance or self seeking above others. They approach God in a wrong way just like Nadab and Abihu.
And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. (James 4:23)
🌻Being "a miss" while we come before the Lord is a form of Strange fire that the sons of Aaron offered to God. God expects that we are not double minded as well as not having double standards from the world but keeping alligned to the guidance of his Spirit. As James puts it, God resists the Proud but his grace is for the humble like we saw with the sons of Aaron or Annanias & Saffirah who lied to the Holy Spirit.
🌻You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him.And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. (James 4:4-6)
We are therefore called to humble ourselves before the mighty hand of God that His grace may lift us in due time.
