‘Now if a man consecrates his house as holy to the LORD, then the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand.
‘Yet if the one who consecrates it should wish to redeem his house, then he shall add one-fifth of your valuation price to it, so that it may be his. (Lev 27: 14-15)
🌻A vow was a promise to give oneself, or another person (as in a dedication of someone), or one’s possessions to God, either so He would bestow some blessing, or because He had already bestowed a blessing. People made vows to do something or not to do something.
🌻Vows were normally temporary. When a person wanted to get back what he had vowed to God, he had to pay a certain price to the sanctuary to buy back what he had given to God. This constituted “redeeming” what the person had vowed.
🌻There was a higher price in redeeming vows because the Lord expected that vows were made without rush. The Lord expected that men would carefully consider what they say before him.
But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation. ( Jam 5:12)
🌻The Priests were required to value the house or land for which thing was to be sanctified. Therefore we ought to first count the cost of our decisions before God.
🌻When we come before the Lord we ought to not be driven by emotion but counsel. That’s why He has given us the Spirit.
🌻For we know not how to pray sometimes but he prays on our behalf because he understands the mind of God for us.
🌻For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?
🌻Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ ( Luke 4:28- 30)
🌻We can easily Count the Cost because we have received the Holy Spirit as a helper as we approach the Lord.
You are blessed.
