🌻We have heard of lost cities or cultures that have been completely wiped out from the face of the earth. They once thrived, did so well but the land literary threw them out.
🌻According to wikipedia, a lost city is an urban settlement that fell into terminal decline and became extensively or completely uninhabited, with the consequence that the site's former significance was no longer known to the wider world.
🌻In the chapter 18 of Leviticus, the Lord gives instructions to Isrealites among which were issues regarding incest, homosexuality, child sacrifice and relations with animals to whose end he said he had cast the former nations out so that Isreal could inhabit.
🌻The emphasis today is on the fact that the Lord would curse the land and for the land to avoid this punishment, it would cast out the people.
“Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things, for by all these the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean, and the land became unclean, so that I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. (Lev 18:24-25)
🌻The Teacher in proverbs talks about this Righteousness as a key substance in keeping a nation going for generations. When a nation is familiar with the principles of the land on which they dwell, they become successful. The land yields forth its full strength.
🌻When Cain killed his brother, a curse came upon him and the land would nolonger yield forth its strength. In the order of God's creation, the earth is suppossed to yield all of its strength to earth. Whether its a business you start, or a field you plant, or a career you pursue, the Lord has designed the land to yield all its strength to you.
When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth" (Genesis 4:11-12)
🌻The same principle applies for families. Some families are cut off and forgotten and yet others thrive for generations. It simply means, they fulfil the principles of Righteousness and enjoy the blessing of the land.
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. (Prov 14:34)
🌻In the new covenant of Christ, God has made Jesus Christ our Righteousness as and hence we live and abide forever because Christ lives among us. You will start a business and the land will bring forth all her strength, your children will be great men and women, your family cannot just perish or loose its possessions but instead you are exalted Everyday.
And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, (1 Cor 1:30)
Glory be to Jesus!
