🌻The plague of leprosy was an uncleanness, rather than a disease. Christ is said to cleanse lepers, not to cure them.
🌻In most cases, Leprosy was a plague often inflicted immediately by the hand of God. Miriam's leprosy, and Gehazi's, and king Uzziah's, were all punishments of particular sins.
16 But when he was strong, he grew proud, to his destruction. For he was unfaithful to the Lord his God and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.
17 But Azariah the priest went in after him, with eighty priests of the Lord who were men of valor, 18 and they withstood King Uzziah and said to him, “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense.
Go out of the sanctuary, for you have done wrong, and it will bring you no honor from the Lord God.” Then Uzziah was angry. Now he had a censer in his hand to burn incense, and when he became angry with the priests, leprosy broke out on his forehead in the presence of the priests in the house of the Lord, by the altar of incense (2 Chron 26:16-19)
🌻The Judgement of King Uzziah comes at a time when he had excelled so much as a King, conquered Philistines, invented machine for warfare and his name had become great.
🌻The Bible says that as long as he listened to God in the days of Zechariah, the Lord prospered him. However, with his great success, he thought he would minister where he was not consecrated.
🌻He approached the Lord’s presence directly yet the Lord had clearly set priests for this work. The end result was that he was struck with leprosy.
🌻The main symptom of leprosy is that it affects the nerves and feeling is affected. Spiritually, leprosy is an indication that feeling after God is affected and one cannot discern the right way that he should walk into.
🌻In God’s command to the priests about leprosy in Leviticus 13, one was to stay outside the camp and live alone until he was cleansed.
🌻When the priest had pronounced the leper unclean, it put a stop to his business in the world, cut him off from his friends and relations, and ruined all the comfort he could have in the world.
🌻It was a judgement against someone for having operated beyond their consecrated jurisdiction like the story of Gehazi.
🌻Today, you meet people who were once successful and made an error through their pride because they thought the person in that position either wasn’t competent, eloquent or they were simply better. For this reason, they were judged and you find them struggling.
🌻They are cut off from work, careers, business opportunities and whatever they seek to do keeps failing. Sometimes it’s not witchcraft or a spirit, it’s just leprosy.
🌻The good news is that Christ has given us the power to cleanse the lepers. The priests were given power to examine leprosy and we see Jesus cleanse a man with leprosy. (Math 8:1 -14).
🌻Therefore let us take it on ourselves to examine ourselves and ensure that no trace of spiritual leprosy (judgement from un consecrated assignment) be in us.
Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!(2 Cor 13:5)
