Leviticus 7
And if any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offering is eaten at all on the third day, it shall not be accepted, nor shall it be imputed to him; it shall be an abomination to him who offers it, and the person who eats of it shall bear guilt. (Lev 7:16)
🌻In this portion, the Lord directed that an offering of thanksgiving (Peace or free will offering) was to be eaten on the same day or just an extra day.
🌻This is because if it was a lot , the Lord expected that one would invite their friends or distribute to the poor. Any sacrifice eaten on the third day would not be acceptable.
🌻Also important to note is that whether it was the sacrifice of an animal or donated supplies for a place of worship, the Peace (free will) offering was to be given freely, as the Lord moved the Israelites.
🌻God’s purpose of this Sacrifice was that as many people as possible would have a share of it and participate in the thanksgiving. As Paul tells us in 2 Cor 9
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cor 9:7)
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. (2 Cor 9:7 -8)
🌻As the Grace of God increases upon our lives to provide beyond our needs, we are reminded that we need to reach out to others and through this, they will also give thanksgiving to the Lord.
🌻As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
🌻You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
🌻This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.
🌻Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.
🌻And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you.
🌻Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
