Circumcission of the heart - Our Identity Mark in Christ

The Lord said to Moses,  “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. If a woman becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son, she will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her menstrual period. On the eighth day the boy’s foreskin must be circumcised. (Leviticus 12:1-3)

🌻The curse in Gen 3 after the fall of implied that we would be born with sin. In this context the Lord instructs that on the 8th day, the boy was to be cirmcirsed as a mark that he was nolonger unclean and that he was the Lord's.

🌻The mark of circumcision was first given to Abraham when the Lord made a covenant with him, that all males in his household would be circumcised.

🌻When a country would colonise another in times past, the country would adopt the flag of the coloniser as a mark that the country has authority there.

🌻Similary, the mark of circumcision was indication that God has authority over the person that had it.

🌻As believers of Christ, we have an identity mark signifying the authority of Jesus Christ over our lives (personal will).

🌻The flesh (natural will) is our default operating system. It dictates what we should do, where we should go and when we can do it. Just like a colonial authority, when we give our lives to Christ, this natural setting os replaced by a heavenly mark (spiritual circumcision).

🌻When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature, (Col 2:11)

🌻having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.  And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, (Col 2:12-13)

🌻The circumcision of the heart, now carried out by baptism is an indication that our conscience (our state of the heart) in relation to the Lord is now free of sin because we have Jesus in Heaven.

🌻Those flood waters were like baptism that now saves you. But baptism is more than just washing your body. It means turning to God with a clear conscience, because Jesus Christ was raised from death. (1 Pet 3:19-21)

🌻What is the spiritual mark?

After the believing on Him, Christ has given us a Mark of Identification, The Holy Spirit, signifying that we are now His. Just as the Isrealites had a mark for circumcission, we have recieved a Seal (Stamp) of the God's own Spirit.

🌻In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,  who is the guaranteed of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. (Eph 1:13-14)
