We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. (2 Cor 6:1)
As believers, we are constantly reminded of the grace of God and the blessings it brings. However, there may be times when the grace of God seems to not benefit us. This can be a discouraging experience, but it is important to understand that this is not a rejection of God's grace, but a result of receiving it without purpose or result.
“Vain” according to its use in Gal. 2:2; Phil. 2:16; 1 Thess. 3:5) typically means either “empty” or without content or without purpose or result. To receive God’s grace ‘in vain’ (eis kenon) is not to ‘reject’ it . . . or even to ‘neglect’ it . . . but to receive it without profit, without the intended effect being achieved. The grace is accepted, but it never attains its goal; it comes to nothing.
holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. (Phil 2:16)
Paul therefore hints that the sure way to avoid missing out on the profit in the grace of God is to hold fast to the word of God and give ourselves fully to it. As in the parable of the sower in Luke 8, some seeds fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. Jesus later describes these as the cares of the world that later got the message out before it could profit a man.
Therefore we ought to be vigilant as concerns to this grace, that where as it is given us and we have received it, we should also gain the profit that comes with it as Paul tells Timothy, to meditate on the word day and night that his profiting may appear to all men.
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them, that thy profiting may appear to all. (1 Tim 4:15)
For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.”Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (2 Cor 6:2)
This simply means that God listens, God helps, God delivers, God prospers men who have received His Grace in the day of Salvation which is NOW. The difference is whether or not we have set ourselves in a position for this blessed Grace to proper Us.
Begin to take the word serious, take advantage of every opportunity to listen or minister the word, share it with a friend, be involved.
You are Blessed
