Always Yes and Amen: Finding Confidence in God's Promises

In today's world, many people ask how they can inherit the promises of God. We may question what it is we need to do to get answers to our prayers or if God actually answers all Prayers. However, 2 Corinthians 1:20 reminds us that all of God's promises find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. (2 Cor 1:20)

This verse is often understood in the context of God's promises to his people. The verse is saying that all of God's promises are fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The word "Yes" in the original Greek is "amen," which can be translated as "so be it" or "truly." So, this verse is saying that all of God's promises are truly fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

One example of a promise that God fulfilled through Jesus is the promise of the Holy Spirit. In John 14:26, Jesus says, "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." This verse is referencing the promise of the Holy Spirit that God made to his people, and it is through Jesus that this promise is fulfilled.

Another example is the promise of provision. In Philippians 4:19, Paul writes, "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." God promises to provide for us, and when we trust in Him and His provision, we can see it fulfilled in our lives.

It is one thing to know about the promises of God and another to actually recieve them. As Hebrews says

And we desire for each one of you to show the same diligence [all the way through] so as to realize and enjoy the full assurance of hope until the end, that you will not be [spiritually] sluggish, but [will instead be] imitators of those who through faith [lean on God with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in His power] and by patient endurance [even when suffering] are [now] inheriting the promises.(Heb 6:11-12 AMP)

There are people who are currently enjoying God's promises, who experience the power of God's word on a daily because they have chosen the absolute trust and confidence in His power. Sadly, some miss out because they are indiffrent, lazy spiritually and dull.

We see the example of Abraham who relied on God completely, by first believing on the Lord that he will be a father of nations when he was past age but also willing to sacrifice his only son, and the bible says he inherited the promises.

“I will certainly bless you,

and I will multiply your descendants beyond number.”

Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised. (Heb 6:14-15)

it's important to remember that God's promises are not just something of the past, they are still relevant and active today and being inherited by those who have chosen to rely on God. And as 2 Corinthians 1:20 reminds us, all of God's promises find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ. We can have confidence in God's promises and trust that He will be faithful to them.
